The Walnut Creek Fish Cleaning Station has joined the Governors’ and Premiers’ 100% Great Lakes Fish Pledge, officials announced alongside the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) and the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Governors & Premiers (GSGP).
The station is the 45th to sign on and the first sportfish cleaning station to participate in the regional initiative, which promotes the full use of fish caught, raised, or processed in the Great Lakes region.
“A day like this is huge for our program,” said John Schmidt, program manager with GSGP. “We want to maximize the value of all fish we harvest, grow in aquaculture, catch recreationally, or process in the region. Launching the sportfish component of the 100% Great Lakes Fish initiative represents a significant opportunity to redirect large volumes of fish byproducts into productive uses like fish leather, collagen, and fertilizer.”…
