Woman fresh out of rehab in New Jersey arrested in theft of $2,000 cat

A woman fresh out of rehab in New Jersey has been arrested in the theft of a $2,000 cat in Clermont.

A deputy responded to a burglary in progress at a residence on Dream Catcher Court in Clermont around 11:20 a.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The former roommate of 32-year-old Sarah Marie Brennan stated she had broken into the residence and taken one of the cats.

The ex-roommate explained that Brennan had not lived with her for over 60 days, and she had gotten a room to rent on Skyridge Road instead. Brennan had also been at a rehab facility in New Jersey for 40 days and recently returned to Florida, the report said.

That morning, the ex-roommate had seen Brennan on camera about 5 to 10 minutes before law enforcement arrived. The sliding door to her bedroom had been left unlocked, which was how Brennan got inside. She then took a white and gray cat named Maji, who weighed about 18 pounds and was valued at over $2,000, the report said…
