Gun Malfunction Ends Violent Kissimmee Confrontation; ICE Detainer Placed On Suspect

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with a broad-daylight attempted murder that took place earlier this month in a Kissimmee parking lot. Melkin Vazquez Romero was taken into custody following an investigation into a March 12 dispute that local authorities say nearly turned fatal if not for a mechanical failure of a firearm.

The incident began around 1:57 p.m. outside 2601 West Vine Street. According to investigators, a verbal disagreement between two individuals turned physical. During the fight, the victim reportedly pulled out a knife. Police say the suspect, later identified as Vazquez Romero, left the immediate area only to return moments later with a loaded gun.

Detectives determined that Vazquez Romero pointed the weapon at the victim and attempted to fire it twice. However, the gun malfunctioned both times, and no shots were discharged. The suspect then fled the scene before officers arrived to handle the initial disturbance call…
