Return to Grand River: Lansing residents push to restore historic road name

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Residents of Lansing’s Old Town say it’s time for the neighborhood to return to its roots and leave Cesar E. Chavez Avenue in the rear-view mirror.

Calls for the stretch of road to be restored to its original name come after the late civil rights icon was accused of sexual abuse.

Cesar E. Chavez Avenue has been synonymous with the bustling Old Town shopping district, but people who live there know the area as the Walnut Neighborhood. To them, the road has always been Grand River Avenue, and they want the name restored.

Historic significance
