TENNESSEE (WHNT) — Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security officials are warning Tennessee residents of a scam that is circulating across the state.
Citizens are receiving messages claiming to be a “Final Notice of a Pending Traffic Case” and urging immediate payment or action. However, the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security does NOT send text messages demanding payment for traffic violations or legal matters.

Here are some tips on what residents should be looking for to help identify the scam:
- Messages demanding urgent payment
- Threats of legal action, license suspension, or arrest
- Suspicious links or unfamiliar phone numbers

- Do NOT click any links
- Do NOT provide personal or financial information
- Delete the message immediately
