On March 12, Assistant Principal Jacqueline Spring announced on BDTV that the student ID policy at WHS would be strictly enforced going forward. Students were reminded that IDs are to be worn on lanyards when in the building and must be visible at all times. “Students should expect to be approached by staff if your ID is not visible. Failure to wear a visible school ID can result in conduct consequences,” said Spring.
According to School Safety and Security Specialist Frank Padovano, lanyard colors serve as a quick way to identify individuals in the building. “Staff wear blue, visitors wear red, contractors who come into the district wear yellow and substitute teachers wear green,” said Padovano.
The sudden decision to penalize students for not wearing an ID has been met with opposition from much of the student body. “There was no firm stance on the policy in the beginning, so it’s hard to care now,” said senior Peyton Harrington…
