Afternoon traffic in South Tampa turned into a headache tomorrow when a construction-related gas line rupture triggered a hazardous-materials response and shut down several streets in the Hyde Park area. Tampa Fire Rescue crews moved in alongside utility workers, while police scrambled to steer drivers around the cordoned-off blocks.

According to Tampa Fire Rescue, the gas line was ruptured during construction, prompting the department’s HazMat team to respond and work with TECO/Peoples Gas to stabilize the situation. As reported by Tampa Bay 28, South Boulevard was closed in both directions between West Azeele and West Cleveland, and Platt Street was blocked from South Edison to South Fielding.
