The permit is up for a final vote by the City Council. The Lafayette Police Department and the DDA are both urging the council not to approve the permit, citing concerns about the location and the influx of police calls related to the operators’ other business.
The DDA cites LPD records showing that the location had 189 calls for police service since a permit was issued for that bar in 2023. There were fewer than 40 calls to the address in the two years prior. The DDA also points to a citation by LPD for not having security on location, a requirement of Rooftop’s permit and the potential daiquiri shop as well. In its written opposition, LPD also cites concerns about the location next to Nite Town, with crowds mingling and potentially getting into altercations outside, where there are already lines and a police presence on weekend nights.
