‘Blessed to know him’: Broadcasting professor retires after 40 years

After teaching students since the late 1970s, broadcasting professor and 90.3 KRNU General Manager Rick Alloway decided to retire through the Voluntary Separation Incentive Program.

Alloway said that everything “perfectly aligned” at the right time, leading him to retire after spending 40 years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He turned 70 on Feb. 4, his tenure at the university reached 40 years, and his Friday morning a cappella radio show, Vocal Chords, turned 30.

He also said his wife Shelley’s breast cancer diagnosis in 2024 reinforced his decision, as the two spent lots of time over the past year at appointments…
