Boise River WMA closure set to lift roughly two weeks ahead of schedule

BOISE, Idaho — Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) is lifting an all-entry closure on April 1 on the Boise Front segment of Boise River Wildlife Management Area (WMA), roughly two weeks ahead of schedule.

The closure, which was originally set to lift on April 14, was enacted to support mule deer and elk populations. However, due in part to warmer temperatures the area is able to re-open ahead of schedule.

“Given the winter we experienced, and where deer and elk are currently distributed on the landscape, we feel that re-opening the WMA early is the right decision,” said Regional Habitat Manager Brad Lowe in a news release. “The intent of the access closure was to protect wintering big game animals, and that has largely been accomplished.”…
