BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County is proposing sewer rate hikes by hundreds of dollars over the next five yearsin county service areas for some properties in west Bakersfield, according to the Board of Supervisors agenda for Tuesday.
According to county officials, the city of Bakersfield charges certain county service areas in Bakersfield for sewer trunkline collection and wastewater treatment services.

The increases would affect 1,263 properties in County Service Area No. 71 in west Bakersfield.
The current monthly rate for sewer services that a single-family home has to pay this year is $24.58, or $295 per year. If the increase plan gets implemented, that would go up to $39.58 per month or $475 per year for one year starting July 1…
