Did you see it? Second fireball meteor lights up Ohio skies

TOLEDO, Ohio — A fireball meteor was sighted streaking across the night sky on Monday, the second in roughly a week.

The meteor entered Earth’s atmosphere at about 9:30 p.m. Monday in southern Wisconsin and could be seen passing over half a dozen states, including all of southern Michigan and northwest Ohio. This marks the second meteor spotted over Ohio skies, the first capturing the nation’s attention on March 17 after it fragmented across Medina County.

Michael Cushing, a professor at the University of Toledo, said Earth often has small rocks and pieces of dust that enter the atmosphere everyday, but they burn up in the atmosphere, often without people ever knowing. When a meteor is of a significant size, such as the one seen almost a week ago over Cleveland, people often will hear a “boom” because of its supersonic speed as it enters the atmosphere…
