Driver who stopped to help with flat tire struck by car on N.J. highway

A driver who stopped on Route 21 in Essex County to help another motorist early Tuesday was struck and critically injured by a passing vehicle, police said.

The man pulled over about 4 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Exit 8 in Nutley, according to Police Chief Thomas J. Strumolo.

“The person stopped on the side of the highway and was crossing the road to assist a motorist with a flat tire and was struck by the vehicle,” Strumolo said…
