Chuck Norris, the actor and martial arts legend recently passed away at the age of 86. He, rumor has it, almost died 43 years earlier while filming a movie here in El Paso.
One of the coolest characters played by Chuck Norris was Lone Wolf McQuade; the titular character in the movie filmed in El Paso during the summer of 1982. That’s when he almost bought the proverbial farm.
For about 7 weeks, cast and crew wandered all over the El Paso area filming and one scene supposedly resulted in a rattlesnake bite that could have killed the star just as his acting career was about to take off.
Chuck Norris didn’t die. Death finally had the courage to meet him.
That story actually inspired a “Chuck Norris is so tough” joke. This one goes: “Chuck Norris was once bitten by a rattlesnake. After 3 days of excruciating pain, the rattlesnake died.”

From the Sunland Park area, to the Franklin Mountains, to Indian Cliffs Ranch in Fabens to downtown, to an international bridge crossing, (since demolished), down in the valley and more. El Paso really shines in this one.
