Bernalillo County remembers Deputy Sheriff James McGrane, who was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Highway 337 at 12:46 a.m. on March 22, 2006. The suspect fled the scene and was later caught in Juarez, Mexico, on April 3, 2006. He was convicted in 2010 of McGrane’s killing and sentenced to 43½ years, with an additional 28 years added in 2012 for a separate 2005 murder. Deputy McGrane had served with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department for three years and is survived by his wife, parents, and sister. More information.
