A new coffee house opens, a brewery closes in Eugene

This week we’re bringing you news of openings and closures in the Eugene-Springfield restaurant scene. In opening news, a new, cozy, book-ish coffee shop is opening near the Riverfront district of Eugene. General Manager Rebekah Sapp says she hopes the shop will have an “old-world feel” and be “cozy but not pretentious.” Her shop, Alchemy Coffee House, is located at 545 E Eighth Ave.

Beer drinkers and general third-space enthusiasts will be sad to hear Arable Brewing is permanently closing. Community members enjoyed many a pint, conversation and laugh within the West Eugene facility and are bummed to see them go.

Alchemy Coffee House soft open

Stepping inside Alchemy feels like stumbling through a closet into Narnia or running through Platform 9 3/4. Customers are transported from a dreary, ordinary March day into a world of creamy walls dotted with natural light and decorated with vintage art prints. Plants and books adorn nearly every non-table surface, and plenty of comfortable seating is available. And of course, there’s coffee and tea, too.

The magical interior design is thanks to Rebekah Sapp, general manager of Alchemy. She started playing with decorating ideas on Pinterest the moment she joined the team for the coffee shop, and now nary a wall is bare. Sapp’s experience as general manager at Webfoot has helped her develop connections within the community and led her to this opportunity…
