Community concerns grow over Charleston Co. School District foundation nomination

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A new lawsuit is currently targeting the Charleston County School District. Community members packed a board meeting demanding answers about a controversial Education Foundation nomination and those opposing the board’s move say race played a factor in the decision.

More than a dozen community members stood before the board, united in their call for accountability and proper representation as they continued to make their dissatisfaction about the nomination process for the District 8 Education Foundation known.

“My job, my commitment is to make sure African Americans and other people of color are not discriminated against by this board,” The Rev. Nelson B. Rivers III, national vice president of religious affairs and external relations for the National Action Network, said…
