Beyond the finish line, Bridge Run aids ‘Pet Helpers’ nonprofit

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The Cooper River Bridge Run is known for drawing tens of thousands of runners to the Charleston area each year—but its impact stretches far beyond the racecourse. For local nonprofits like Pet Helpers, the annual event provides critical funding, community visibility, and hands-on opportunities to connect with supporters.

JJ Steele with Pet Helpers says the race benefits organizations in ways many people may not immediately realize. “I think the wonderful thing about the Cooper River Bridge Run is it impacts not just what you would think for the community, it’s little things by how it impacts Pet Helpers,” Steele said.

Pet Helpers is one of roughly ten nonprofits selected to receive funding from the Bridge Run each year. That support comes directly from race-related contributions, giving organizations both financial assistance and a platform to share their mission with a broader audience…
