Mystery Body Pulled From Big Walnut Creek Jolts Northeast Columbus

A weekend walk along Big Walnut Creek turned grim on Saturday when a passerby spotted a body floating in the water, prompting a swift response from local authorities. First responders recovered the individual’s remains and pronounced the person dead at the scene, according to officials. The Franklin County coroner’s office says it is now working to identify the person and figure out how they ended up in the creek.

How the body was discovered

According to The Columbus Dispatch, the body was reported at about 1:15 p.m. Saturday by someone walking along the eastern shore of Big Walnut Creek. The scene was described as just south of State Route 161 and north of Ingleside Drive.

First responders and identification

Blendon Township police officers and Westerville–Blendon Township medics responded and pronounced the individual dead at the scene, authorities said. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office has taken custody of the remains and is leading efforts to confirm the person’s identity.
