Mobile man faces assault charge a day after arrest on suspicion of copper theft

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Mobile man arrested Monday faces an additional charge stemming from an incident that happened in October 2025, according to the Mobile Police Department.

Andrew Pope Jr., 35, was arrested Monday after officers encountered him allegedly carrying multiple bags and a large pair of box cutters. Pope is accused of running from officers before being arrested.

Police said they believe he cut copper from Azalea Pointe Apartments the night before.
