11 people charged, 2 cars impounded for street takeovers

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Richmond Police worked with multiple agencies to charge 11 people for street takeovers.

Police said that on Saturday night, March 21, groups of drivers gathered at multiple spots in Richmond, which included:

  • Chamberlayne Avenue and Bacon Street
  • 2000 block of West Broad Street
  • 1500 block of West Broad Street
  • 1300 block of Coalter Street
  • Hull Street and Commerce Road
  • Arthur Ashe Boulevard

Many of them were recklessly driving and endangering the public, according to police.

Police issued the following charges and violations during 11 different traffic stops:

  • 12 traffic violations
  • 10 misdemeanor charges: hit-and-run, reckless driving charges, driving on a suspended license, and obstruction of justice
  • 1 felony charge: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Exhibition driving violation resulting in the impoundment of one vehicle

“This should serve as a warning: if you gather to drive recklessly and create unsafe conditions for motorists, pedestrians, and businesses, your vehicle can be impounded,” Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards said…
