Oakland Park Horror: Man Busted After Girlfriend Gunned Down Outside Tiny Apartment

A 41-year-old Oakland Park man is behind bars after his girlfriend was shot in January outside the couple’s small efficiency unit and later died at Broward Health Medical Center, authorities said.

Arrest and investigation

Detectives have identified the suspect as Miguel Hernandez, 41. He was arrested Sunday and is facing one count of manslaughter with a firearm, along with multiple drug-possession charges, according to investigators.

On Jan. 24, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded to the 4000 block of Northeast Eighth Avenue, where they found the woman lying near the doorway of a small efficiency unit. Hernandez was nearby, reportedly “crying and with blood on his hands” as he called out for help, investigators said.

Inside the unit, detectives impounded a handgun and noted the presence of drug paraphernalia. They also obtained consent to search Hernandez’s cellphone, according to Local 10.
