Montgomery County Public Schools takes back days added to the end of school year for snow

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — One month after Montgomery County Public Schools announced it was extending the school year into late June to make up snow days, the school district is taking it back. Now, the last day of school is June 18.

It’s possible because the Maryland State Board of Education approved a request to waive three days of student attendance, and the school district added a half-day on April 15.

During snowstorms in January and February, MCPS gave students more than a week off, despite only having one day allotted in the academic calendar for inclement weather. The school district tried to avoid extending the school year but was initially unable to prevent it, announcing Feb. 20 that the school year would be extended to June 25. But after the state school board approved their waiver request on Tuesday, MCPS was able to roll back the days added in June…
