Boca Raton council approves controversial Mizner Plaza Hotel project in 4-1 vote

BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — Boca Raton has approved a plan for a new 12-story, 219-room hotel that would rise at the city’s downtown “pink plaza,” directly south of Mizner Park.

The Community Redevelopment Agency’s board on Monday voted 4-1 in favor of the controversial plan. Supporters say the hotel will support the city’s economic growth, while opponents have concerns including traffic congestion and construction impacts.

The agency’s board consists of the five-member City Council, three of whom are departing their seats next week. Some residents used the departing council members’ nearing term limit as part of their argument for why the hotel should be shot down…
