Lubbock County Commissioners pass next steps for long-awaited Expo Center

LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock County Commissioners are moving forward with the Lubbock County Expo project.

The court passed several resolutions Tuesday to hire a new architect and decide on a budget reserve made up of the county’s heightened hotel tax, first approved by voters to help fund the project in 2018.

“I just say to the people in Lubbock County, thanks for your patience,” said Randy Jordan, chairman of the Lubbock County Expo Center Board. “We’re going to see the Expo Center come to life, and today is a step in the right direction.”

Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish asked to amend the resolutions by adding a fundraising deadline for the board and to increase the reserve from $5 million to $10 million, citing concerns about the venue operating in a deficit…
