Denver vote on Axon license plate reader contract delayed amid uncertainty it has enough support

DENVER — Denver City Council delayed a planned vote Monday night on a proposed contract to replace the city’s controversial license plate reader cameras, pushing the decision back one week after a councilmember requested more time to review questions and public input.

The council was expected to vote on a contract with Axon to replace the city’s current Flock cameras.

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston previously said he would allow the council to decide on the new system after twice extending the Flock contract without council approval. But just before the debate began, Councilmember Kevin Flynn invoked a procedural rule to postpone final action…
