Advocates walk in support of CDTA fare-free transit

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Members and supporters of We Are Revolutionary are pushing for fare-free transit on CDTA buses. According to the Albany City School District, all K-12 students without individualized education plans have to walk to school if they live less than 1.5 miles away.

It’s been that way for decades. “That policy forces young people to walk regardless of weather, safety conditions, work schedules or after school obligations,” said Anaya Davis, a youth organizer.

Students who do not meet the requirements for a free bus ride, either on a typical school bus or CDTA, have access to a 10% discount on the standard fare. Advocates are also pushing for fare-free transit for everyone, not just students. We Are Revolutionary said those who ride Albany’s buses make around $15,000 a year. They went on to say that $1.50 ticket can add up.
