RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — After months of discussion and public feedback, the Richland County Council voted Tuesday night to approve a rezoning request that will allow the expansion of a county-owned landfill in the northern part of the county.
The council approved changing 63 acres of land from agricultural use to heavy industrial, clearing the way for the landfill to grow and provide additional space for waste disposal. The rezoning passed in an 8-1 vote with Councilman Weaver being the only vote in opposition.
