Ocala fiber optic installer accused of cutting cables, causing internet outages, $500k in damages

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – When a business partnership went awry, Marion County Sheriff’s deputies say Rolando Socorro retaliated by cutting fiber optic cables across four different central Florida locations.

Deputies say Socorro, 38, of Ocala, was subcontracted by Ivy H Smith, a company that installs fiber optic cables, through his company, RGS Communications LLC.

The regional manager for Ivy H Smith confirmed to deputies that Socorro was contracted by the company, but cut ties with him after “aggressiveness issues.”…
