Kent County mother and daughter found dead in vehicle, carbon monoxide poisoning suspected

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A mother and daughter found dead inside of a vehicle in Byron Township Tuesday afternoon may have died because of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.

The two were found around 2:30 p.m. inside of a vehicle that had a “strong exhaust smell” parked in a community lot within the Maplewood Mobile Home Park near Division Avenue South, deputies said.

The mother, 38, and daughter, 16, were temporarily sleeping inside the vehicle “due to a condition” at their home within the park, according to detectives, who said they both appeared to have been dead for an extended period of time.

While examining the vehicle, investigators said they found the floorboards and exhaust system to be in poor condition. At this time, detectives believe they died from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning and do not suspect there was any foul play…
