Miami Gardens residents oppose El Dorado warehouse rezoning over traffic, safety concerns

Miami Gardens residents are sounding the alarm on a controversial rezoning item that would allow for the expansion of an El Dorado Furniture warehouse, voicing fears that the project would worsen truck traffic, pollution and safety issues.

The proposal, scheduled for a final vote on March 25, would rezone a vacant 4.21-acre parcel southwest of the El Dorado Furniture Palmetto Boulevard site from residential to heavy industrial for loading and staging. According to city staff, about half the site would be used for warehouse space, while the rest would include landscaping, paving and parking.

While city staff recommends approval, claiming the plan aligns with development goals, neighbors argue the issue transcends land-use designations. For them, the debate centers on whether their community must absorb further industrial activity without meaningful protections.

Residents insist the project threatens their quality of life in an already burdened neighborhood.
