Montgomery mom says ceiling collapse left her family without safe space; city leaders push for inspections, accountability

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A Montgomery mother says deteriorating conditions inside her apartment led to a frightening ceiling collapse in her daughter’s bedroom, and she claims the complex is refusing to fully repair the damage, replace damaged belongings or provide her family a place to stay.

Qualita Stokes, a tenant at Greenbriar Apartments, said what started as a leak Friday quickly escalated.

She said she first noticed what looked like a small crack in her daughter’s bedroom ceiling. Within minutes, she said, the ceiling gave way, collapsing and exposing wood, insulation and visible water damage…
