Woman recounts fight to open prestigious San Francisco athletic clubs to women

All Lee Bender really wanted was a hot shower.

Somewhere in the pursuit of that shower, she and five other women touched off a mini-revolution that resulted in two of San Francisco’s most revered athletic clubs opening their doors to women for the first time. That was 50 years ago.
