SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash — Spokane County Commissioners have approved a new fee for people requesting sheriff’s office body camera footage, a move officials say is aimed at recovering the growing cost of processing those videos.
Under the newly approved policy, requestors will be charged 78 cents per minute of video to cover the time it takes staff to review and redact footage before it can be released.
County leaders say the fee is tied directly to the labor-intensive process of removing sensitive or legally protected information — including blurring faces, muting audio, and protecting the identities of victims, especially juveniles or those involved in domestic violence cases…
