Albany 518 SNUG receives over $1M in state grant funding

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Gun violence is an issue that continues to harm our community. In just this past month alone, four teens were injured in shootings in Albany. Through versatile programming, organizations like SNUG are meeting the community where they’re at, with the support of state grant funding.

SNUG is an anti-gun violence program that works with people who are at high risk of becoming victims or perpetrators of gun violence. Their primary focus is on youth between the ages of fourteen and twenty five.

“How we reach them is every day there’s a team at Albany High, at KIPP, at Hackett during dismissal, so that the staff can kind of monitor what’s going on,” explained Cheryl Morris, Albany SNUG program manager.

Each day, staff engage in conflict mediation and mentorship. Their main goal is to get kids off the streets and out of unsafe situations. They then provide safe, engaging, and fulfilling opportunities…
