Manassas council weighs airport renaming ahead of April decision

A proposal to rename Manassas Regional Airport is advancing as city officials weigh branding, costs and public input ahead of a final decision expected in April.

The potential name change is part of a broader effort to better position the airport within the Washington, D.C., region as it prepares for the addition of commercial airline service as early as 2027. Airport officials have said the current name, while reflective of local identity, does not clearly communicate the facility’s proximity to the nation’s capital or its role in the regional transportation network.

The Manassas Regional Airport Commission previously recommended three naming options to the City Council: Washington Manassas Airport, Washington Manassas National Airport and Washington Manassas Regional Airport.
