Disabled man allegedly died after being dropped out of wheelchair by airline worker

HUNTINGTON, W.V. (WKRC) – A father filed a lawsuit against an airline after his son allegedly died when an airline worker dropped him from a wheelchair while boarding a plane.

According to a lawsuit filed by Tony Adkins and obtained by People, Adkins and his two sons, 24-year-old Hunter Adkins and 9-year-old Kaden Adkins, were boarding an Allegiance Airlines flight a Hunting Tri-State Airport on March 28, 2024. Hunter, who reportedly lived with muscular dystrophy, used a wheelchair to get around.

Hunter was allegedly being aided by the airport’s “wheelchair assistants” who were supposed to move Hunter from his motorized wheelchair to an “aisle wheelchair” that would allow him to navigate the plane safely. Instead, the lawsuit claimed that the plane’s captain was “rushing the boarding process so that the plane could be on the runway and take off in 20 minutes,” prompting the wheelchair assistants to leave Hunter so they could help load luggage…
