Grand Rapids police search leaves elderly couple’s home in ruins, family demands answers

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Grand Rapids family is demanding answers after they say a police search left the home of an elderly couple in ruins over the weekend.

Michelle Armstrong says the Darwin Avenue South home belonging to her parents, Carol and John Liptrop Sr., was heavily damaged when Grand Rapids Police Department officers searched the residence Sunday morning. The couple has lived in the home for 31 years.

According to GRPD, officers responded around 9:20 a.m. to a report of a domestic assault at the home. Police say a man and woman were involved in a physical altercation in which the man was seen strangling the woman. By the time officers arrived, the two had gone back inside…
