Dudley Cosmetology University in Greensboro closes after 54 years, but its legacy will live on

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A longtime fixture in downtown Greensboro and a pillar of Black entrepreneurship is now closing its doors.

Dudley Cosmetology University has ended operations after 54 years on South Elm Street, marking another longtime business leaving downtown Greensboro.

“I’m 83,” said Eunice Dudley, Dudley Cosmetology University Beauty School director. “It’s time to go. Let a younger person take it on. Let a new person, a younger person, start a school. That’s what it is. So, it’s bitter on that side, but it’s sweet on that side. It’s bittersweet.”
