‘Troop Zero’ crackdown: Patrols yield 2,578 citations in Madison County

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency wrapped up a 12-day saturation patrol operation in Madison County last week, with state troopers conducting 2,469 traffic stops that produced 2,578 citations and 419 warnings.

The operation, dubbed “Troop Zero,” ran March 6-17 and deployed troopers from across the state into corridors with elevated crash rates. Agency officials said the strategy allows ALEA to concentrate enforcement in targeted areas without significantly reducing coverage elsewhere.

Speeding accounted for the largest share of citations, with troopers writing 1,229 tickets for excessive speed. Other enforcement actions included 257 seat belt violations, 89 citations for driving without a license, 56 improper lane use or lane change violations, 47 following-too-closely citations and 34 child restraint violations.
