McGhee Tyson Airport asks for donations for TSA as shutdown continues

ALCOA, Tenn. (WATE) — McGhee Tyson Airport invited community members to support TSA officers affected by the government shutdown by donating gift cards.

People can bring pre-paid debit gift cards or grocery store and gas station gift cards to the TSA checkpoint. However, they must be for $20 or less because of government guidelines, the airport said.

“At TYS, we’ve been proud to support our local friends and neighbors who work for TSA and are grateful for their continued dedication to our passengers,” McGhee Tyson posted Tuesday. “Thank you for supporting these members of our community who help keep air travel safe every day.”

The Department of Homeland Security ran out of funding around a month ago, with Democrats and Republicans struggling to reach a deal that would end the partial government shutdown.
