NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Customs and Border Protection officers seized 35 electric bikes in Hampton Roads on Feb. 27 after federal investigators determined the vehicles failed to meet safety standards. The shipment, which originated from China, lacked required certification labels and safety markings.
The enforcement action comes as e-bike injuries continue to rise across the United States, particularly in coastal and tourist areas.
Customs and Border Protection officers initially inspected the shipping container on Jan. 7 after the e-bikes arrived from China.
