Leesburg commissioners approved a 25.07 acre addition to the Lake Margaretta Estates 2 in a 4-1 vote Monday night, which could add 75 more homes to the already approved 586 single family home development.
This past August, the Leesburg Commission approved the plan for 586 homes despite objections from neighbors. The property is located south of County Road 48, east of Number Two Road, and west of Trimpi Road. The developer acquired a 25.07 acre parcel which is completely surrounded by the previously approved subdivision.
During the approval process for the original 196.07 acre project, several neighbors raised objections regarding the impact the development would have on traffic on County Road 48, which is a two-lane road. County Road 48 is a heavily traveled road with more than 5,000 new homes approved for construction in the immediate area. Both the Leesburg Planning Commission and the city’s Planning and Zoning Department recommended approval of the addition to Lake Margaretta Estates.
Leesburg resident Mario Nappa read a letter from Lake County Commissioner Kirby Smith which urged the Leesburg commissioners to deny the approval of the additional 25 acres to the Lake Margaretta Estates development . The letter asked that Leesburg not increase the population density of the area and that the city would have to take ownership of Number Two Road.
