Amarillo teacher wins national Chick-fil-A award, $10,000 grant

Theresa Miller, a business teacher and department chair for Career and Technology at Amarillo High School, was teaching her Chick-fil-A Leader Academy business class on a Tuesday morning, as usual — that is, until she heard a knock on the door.

People began to flow into the room, including AHS principal Andrea Pfeifer, other teachers, Miller’s husband, media and well-wishers. Miller was stunned, as well as the students, as people circled around her while Hunter MacInnis, senior program lead with Chick-fil-A Leader Academy out of Atlanta, took the microphone and introduced himself and the reason for his being there.

In addition to being honored as National Teacher of the Year by the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, Miller received an iPad, a pickleball set and a grant of $10,000 for the school, which has become one of the first of its kind by offering a full course, with credits…
