House fire in Ankeny prompts second alarm response

ANKENY, Iowa — The Ankeny Fire Department says a house fire just outside the city prompted a second-alarm response Wednesday afternoon.

Ankeny Fire says crews were dispatched to the 4000 block of NE 94th Avenue, in Douglas Township, around 1:20 p.m. on reports of a residential structure fire. Authorities say a passing driver noticed smoke and flames and called 911.

The Ankeny FD says crews arrived on scene around eight minutes later and found smoke coming from the exterior of the residence. Officials say due to the extent of the fire, a second alarm was transmitted, bringing in additional crews to assist…
