Body found burned in South Jackson, investigation underway

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A body was found burned in South Jackson, police said.

Mobile man faces assault charge a day after arrest on suspicion of copper theft

According to investigators, police received a call about human remains in a wooded area off of Greenway Drive around 10:45 a.m. on March 24, 2026.

Police said a body appeared to have been set on fire, likely only a few hours before they arrived on the scene. Hinds County Sheriff and Jackson Police Chief Tyree Jones said the area appeared to be a homeless camp site.

Police said a witness was detained for questioning, but they’re not believed to be involved.

At this time, this is a death investigation. A cause of the death has not been released for the male victim.
