Downtown Houston Stunned As Married Couple Found Shot Dead In Texas Avenue High-Rise

A downtown Houston high-rise became the scene of a grim discovery when a married couple were found dead with gunshot wounds inside an apartment in the 1400 block of Texas Avenue just before noon, according to authorities. Police said building staff went to check on the unit after neighbors reported a foul odor about a week earlier, and a later visit by a leasing officer led to the bodies.

What police say

According to ABC13 Houston, Houston police said the victims were a husband and wife and both were found with gunshot wounds inside the downtown apartment. An investigator told ABC13 it “appeared the man had assisted in a suicide with his wife before ultimately shooting himself.” Police have not released the couple’s names or any other identifying information.

Neighbors and building checks

ABC13 Houston reports that a resident complained to building staff about a strong smell roughly a week before the bodies were found. The leasing officer did not go into the unit right away, but a later inspection of the apartment led to the discovery and a call to police. Investigators have not said whether there were signs of forced entry or whether anyone else is believed to have been involved.
