BROOKINGS COUNTY, SOUTH DAKOTA — The discovery of 14-year-old McKenna Wendel’s body more than 50 miles from her Sioux Falls home has drawn the attention of federal authorities, online investigators and national media as law enforcement continues to release limited details about the case.
McKenna was found dead on Thursday, March 19, in a rural area near Brookings, approximately an hour north of the home she shared with her grandparents in Sioux Falls.
The Sioux Falls Police Department confirmed the location of her body during a March 23 news conference.
