Salt Lake County considers expanding programs to fill daycare gap over summer

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Following the closure of daycares at the Millcreek Activity Center, Kearns, Magna, and Northwest, Salt Lake County is considering expanding eight of its other programs to help fill the daycare gap over the summer.

“Definitely doesn’t feel good for it to be up in the air,” said Sierra, whose child is in a county-run daycare program currently. “It makes it really hard for parents to plan. It makes it hard to just even communicate with your kids about what’s going to happen. My son is very sad, actually. He started crying when he learned that this place wasn’t going to be anymore, so it would be nice to kind of have a decision and feel better about it.”

The county is now looking to fill the gap of childcare left behind, and not leave families in the lurch come summer…
