Despite partial government shutdown, Albany International TSA keep lines moving swiftly

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)–If you’ve ever been to Albany International Airport, especially during peak times, you might notice TSA lines that wrap all the way down the checkpoint hallway. Yet, even amidst a partial government shutdown that’s leaving many TSA workers without pay, wait times are manageable.

“We are very fortunate here in Albany,” explained Matt Hunter, director of communications for Albany International Airport. “We have a crew of roughly two hundred TSA officers. Despite the fact that it’s been over a month since they’ve received a full paycheck, they are continuing to report for work with pride and professionalism and a smile on their face.”

Hunter says that this is now the third partial paycheck their TSA employees are missing because of the shutdown, and with the way things are running at the check-point, you wouldn’t even know.

“My best friend drove me hours early because, of course, all the stories we’ve been hearing about the TSA lines,” explained Susan Bokan, a traveler at the airport this morning. “So I came hours early, and there was no need at all. There’s no line at all. The staff at the airport have been very helpful, dragging my luggage around. I’m heading off on a southern trip and glad to see that the airports, at least in our area, are running smoothly.”
